Juvenile transfer and reverse transfer evaluations are comprehensive forensic assessments conducted to assist the court in determining whether a youth's case is more appropriately handled in adult criminal court or in the juvenile justice system.

Evaluations involve assessments of the inmates developmental maturity, mental health, emotional and cognitive functioning, prior criminal history, prior interventions and rehabilitative efforts while incarcerated. The evaluation provides the court with an objectively informed analysis of the factors relevant to public safety and treatment, without making the legal decision itself.
